Sujey
Feminine
The Spanish j changed its sound about four hundred years ago. In Cervantes's lifetime it was the soft zh of French je, which is why the French wrote Quichotte and the English wrote Quixote — both were transcribing a sound Spanish then lost, replacing it with the one made at the back of the throat.

The story of Sujey
The consonant shift is one of the largest changes in the history of Spanish and it happened over a couple of generations around 1600. Old Spanish had several sibilants that modern Spanish does not, and the whole system reorganized: the sh sound went to the throat, several s sounds merged, and the spelling was later adjusted to match. That is why the x in Mexico and Texas is said as a throat sound in Spanish and preserves an older spelling, and why Don Quixote arrived in English with a letter that no longer says what it said. The modern j is the product of that shift, and any recent name built with one is using a sound that is younger than the language's great novel.

The Robbye test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sujey's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Robbye climbed just as high around 1913, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Robbye's path sketches the road Sujey is walking now.
Sujey sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Five letters and two syllables, regular in Spanish spelling.
- Spanish speakers read it correctly on sight, which is not true of most respellings.
- It is genuinely uncommon without containing a difficult sound for Spanish speakers.
- The j is said two completely different ways depending on the reader's first language.
- There is no documented meaning, and the honest answer is that it was chosen for its sound.
- Suje, Sujei and Suhey are all in use, so the spelling will be given.
