The story of Stacey
Eustace was in ordinary English use from the Middle Ages, carried by a legend about a Roman general converted by a vision while hunting. Its clipping Stacy or Stacey served as a plain man's name in English and American records for four centuries. The feminine use arrived from Anastasia and overtook it decisively in the 1960s; masculine Stacey peaked in the mid-1950s, a few years before that turn.

fruitful, rich in grain
Read as short for Eustace, from the Greek eustachys — eu, 'well', and stachys, 'ear of grain'. Read as short for Anastasius, it is the Greek anastasis, 'resurrection'. English shortened both the same way, and the short form does not choose between them.

Stacey's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Erwin climbed just as high around 1901, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Erwin's path sketches the road Stacey is walking now.
Stacey sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
