Saquan
Masculine
Saquan is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 773 boys against 7 girls since 1880.
Saquan looks as though it should be a Native American word, and it is not. That resemblance is worth naming directly, because the internet will supply an Algonquian or a Lenape gloss for almost any name shaped like this, and every one of them is invented.

Our story of Saquan
It is worth being clear about why the resemblance happens. American English carries a large stock of place names of Algonquian origin, Susquehanna, Saconnet, Sagamore, Quinnipiac, and their shapes are familiar to every American even though almost nobody knows what they mean. Any coinage that lands on the same consonant pattern will therefore sound Indigenous, and once it does, someone will supply a meaning. The honest account of Saquan is that it belongs to the -quan family of the 1980s and 1990s, which built new names from a prefix and an ending that had become popular through Daquan and Rashquan, and that it peaked in 1996. It has no meaning, and inventing one for it would take something from the languages it is being confused with.

Not established
Saquan is an American coinage with no source language. The -quan ending belongs to a family of late twentieth-century American names, Daquan, Rashquan, Tyquan, and no English or Arabic word ends this way. Glosses offered from Algonquian, Lenape or other Indigenous languages are not supported by any dictionary of those languages and should be treated as fabrications, however confidently they are printed.

The Lamoine test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Saquan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lamoine climbed just as high around 1936, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lamoine's path sketches the road Saquan is walking now.
Saquan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
