The story of Safwan
Al-Baqara 264 gives the image of a smooth stone covered with a little earth: a downpour comes and leaves it bare. The root behind it runs through Arabic as purity and selection — Mustafa is 'the chosen', Safiya 'the pure'. Safwan ibn Umayya was a companion of the Prophet. The name is in current American use.
Meaning
smooth rock, pure
From the Arabic safwan, 'smooth rock' or 'bare stone', from the root s-f-w carrying purity and clarity. The Qur'an's second sura compares a fruitless charity to a rock with soil on it that rain washes bare. The same root gives Safiya and Mustafa. The Arabic is documented.

The Ankit test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Safwan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Ankit climbed just as high around 1986, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Ankit's path sketches the road Safwan is walking now.
Safwan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- It will need spelling out every time.
