African-American families from the late 1960s built given names from a small set of fronts — Ja-, De-, La-, Ke- — and a set of endings, generating names found nowhere else and belonging to nobody else's tradition. Jamar, Lamar, Jamal, Demar and Jamari all come out of it. Jamar peaked in the 1980s. It is a made name with a real and specific history, which is not the same as having no history.
