The story of Riggin
Scandinavian settlement in the ninth and tenth centuries left a layer of Norse landscape words across northern England, and rigg is one of the most visible: it names ridges from Yorkshire to the Solway and turns up in hundreds of field and farm names. Families living on one took the name away with them. Riggs and Rigg reached America early; Riggin is the less common form and has moved to the front of the name only recently, in the current wave of short English surnames used as first names.

of the ridge
Old Norse hryggr means a back or spine and, of land, a ridge; it gave the northern English dialect word rigg, which is still current in Cumbria and the Scottish borders. Rigg and Riggs are surnames from it. Riggin is close enough to belong to that family, and its own step has not been separately documented — an Irish origin has also been suggested and is thinner.

The Fadi test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Riggin's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Fadi climbed just as high around 1989, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Fadi's path sketches the road Riggin is walking now.
Riggin sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
