The story of Renea
French marks the final sound with an accent, Renee, and English has no accents, so a name ending in a stressed ay has to be improvised. The records show the whole set: Renee without the accent, which invites the wrong pronunciation; Renae, using the ae digraph; Renea, treating the a as the vowel and the e as a marker; and Rene, which collapses into the male form. None of them is standard, and all four appear in the same decades, which is exactly what happens when a language borrows a sound it cannot write. The same problem produces the spellings of Desiree, Aimee and Chantelle, and it is one of the most reliable generators of variant spellings in the American data.

The Ricki test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Renea's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Ricki climbed just as high around 1951, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Ricki's path sketches the road Renea is walking now.
Renea sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
