The story of Remie
Remigius of Reims baptized Clovis, king of the Franks, in about 496 — the event that aligned the Frankish kingdom with Rome rather than with Arian Christianity, and arguably the single most consequential baptism in European history. His name became Rémy in French. Remie is a modern spelling used for girls, and the name is given to both sexes now.
Meaning
oarsman
From Latin remigius, of the oars, on remus, an oar; the name belonged to the bishop who baptized Clovis, which is why it became a French one. The word has nothing to do with Remus the twin, which is a separate name.

About 1 girl in 35,717 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 44,646 for Remie itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Cecilie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Remie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Cecilie climbed just as high around 1924, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Cecilie's path sketches the road Remie is walking now.
Remie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
