Odella
Feminine · “wealth”

The story of Odella
Od and ead are the same element wearing different clothes. German and Frankish names use od — Otto, Odo, Odilia, Odoacer — and English names use ead — Edward, Edwin, Edith, Edmund — and both mean wealth in the sense of good fortune rather than money. The word died out of both languages as an ordinary noun and survives only inside names, which is why nobody notices the connection. Odile of Alsace is the best-documented bearer: a seventh-century abbess, patron saint of the province and of people with eye trouble, whose mountain abbey is one of the most visited places in the region.
Meaning
wealth, fortune
From Germanic od, wealth or prosperity, in the name Odilia. That element is the exact cousin of Old English ead, which produced Edward, Edith and Edmund — the same word in two branches of the same language family, which is why Otto, Odile and Edith are relatives.
