The story of Nestor
Nestor is the oldest of the Greek commanders at Troy, who advises at length and survives the war and the voyage home — one of the few who does. His name passed into Greek, Spanish and Russian use, and Néstor is an ordinary Spanish name. Spanish-speaking families brought it to America, where it appears steadily and is in current use.

homecoming, returner
Usually connected to the Greek nostos, 'homecoming' or 'return' — the same root as nostalgia, 'the ache of return'. The derivation is plausible but not certain, and the name may be pre-Greek. In English and French, 'a nestor' is an ordinary noun for the senior figure in a field.

The Kenton test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nestor's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kenton climbed just as high around 1958, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kenton's path sketches the road Nestor is walking now.
Nestor sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A major figure of the Iliad who survives the whole story carries it.
- The nostos connection ties it to nostalgia, which is a genuinely good detail.
- It is standard in Spanish, Greek, Russian and French without change.
- The etymology is plausible rather than proven.
- In English it is also an ordinary noun for an elder statesman.
- It reads as distinctly classical.
