The story of Manolo
Emmanuel appears in Isaiah 7 as the sign given to Ahaz and is quoted in Matthew's nativity. Spanish shortened it to Manuel, one of the most-used names in the language, and speech made Manolo from it. Spanish-speaking families brought both to America, where Manolo appears steadily and is in current use.
Meaning
God is with us
Through Manuel and Emmanuel, from the Hebrew Immanu El — immanu, 'with us', and El, 'God'. It is a complete statement rather than a word. Manolo is built by a Spanish diminutive process that also gives Paco from Francisco and Pepe from José.
