Our story of Marcheta
Victor Schertzinger, a violinist and composer, published 'Marcheta' in 1913, a love song set in an imagined Mexico, and singers and dance bands recorded it for years afterward. Schertzinger went to Hollywood, directed films and wrote songs such as 'I Remember You'; he directed Road to Singapore, the first of the Road pictures with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour. The song is the likeliest source of the name. It is warm and a little theatrical.
