The story of Marcee
Defending a controversial appointment in the Senate in the eighteen-thirties, a New York senator named William Marcy said that his party's politicians saw nothing wrong in the rule that to the victor belong the spoils of the enemy. He meant it as a plain description of how patronage worked. It was quoted against him for the rest of his career and became the standard name for the whole system: the spoils system, under which every change of administration replaced tens of thousands of federal jobholders with the winning party's supporters. It ran for fifty years and was dismantled only after a disappointed office-seeker shot a president. The same man later served as Secretary of State and negotiated a treaty; New York's highest mountain is named after him, and the sentence is the only thing anybody remembers.
Meaning
of Mars
Whichever of Marcia, Marcella or Marceline this shortens, they all descend from the Roman family name built on the war god's, so the general sense is secure even where the particular parent is not. The doubled e is a modern American ending and carries nothing.

Two syllables with the stress at the front. The doubled e fixes the final vowel as a long e, which a single e would leave open, so the ending does real work here.

Fashion outlook
Marcee sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The ending removes any doubt about how the last syllable is said.
- Two syllables with front stress is easy and quick.
- The general meaning behind the family is documented and secure.
- Marcy, Marci and Marcie are all commoner and will be written for it.
- It reads as a nickname, and people will ask what it stands for.
- The formal name behind it is not recorded, so that question has a family answer rather than a documented one.
