Makenzee
Feminine · “son of Coinneach”
The z in Mackenzie was never a z. Middle Scots used a letter called yogh, shaped like a curly tail, and when printing arrived the presses had no yogh, so compositors substituted a z. That is why Menzies is properly said Mingis and why Mackenzie was once Mackenyie.

The story of Makenzee
The yogh problem affected a whole set of Scots words and names. Printers importing type from the continent had no letter for it and used z, the nearest shape, and readers who did not know that duly said z. Menzies, Dalziel and Mackenzie are the survivors; the first two are still said the old way by families who know, and the third has surrendered entirely. The clan itself held Kintail and Ross and was one of the largest in the Highlands. The surname's other famous bearer went the other way: Alexander Mackenzie followed a great northern river to its mouth in 1789 hoping it would reach the Pacific, found the Arctic Ocean instead, and called it the River Disappointment. It is now the Mackenzie.
Meaning
son of Coinneach
From Gaelic MacCoinnich, son of Coinneach, a personal name usually read as comely or handsome. The Anglicized spelling froze a printer's substitution into the name, which is why the modern pronunciation has a z that no Gaelic speaker ever said.

The Jearlean test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Makenzee's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jearlean climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jearlean's path sketches the road Makenzee is walking now.
Makenzee sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
