The story of Maddex
Madog was one of the standard medieval Welsh men's names — a Madog ap Owain Gwynedd is the subject of a long-lived legend about a Welsh voyage to America. Welsh patronymics were fixed as English-style surnames in the sixteenth century, giving Maddocks, Maddox and Madoc. The surname moved into American given names in the late 1990s and rose steeply; Maddex is one of the respellings that followed, swapping the o for an e.
