The story of Lowen
Cornish ceased to be a community language around 1800 and was revived from manuscripts and place names from 1904; there are now several hundred speakers. Lowen is among the words that came back as given names in that revival, and is used in Cornwall for both sexes. It appears in American records in current use.

joyful, happy
From the Cornish lowen, 'happy' or 'joyful' — the word in Nadelik Lowen, Merry Christmas. A second route reads Lowen as a German surname from Löwe, 'lion', or as an English form of Owen. All three are in circulation; the Cornish reading is the one most bearers give.
