The story of Lloyd
The coffee house model was a genuine information system. Lloyd's advantage was location and diligence: he collected news of arrivals and losses, published it, and provided the room where underwriters wrote their names under the terms of a risk — which is where the word underwriter comes from. The market moved premises several times and became an institution with a bell taken from a wrecked frigate, rung once for bad news and twice for good. Nobody has run a coffee house there for three hundred years and the name has not moved an inch.
Meaning
grey
The Welsh word means grey, and by extension something like venerable or holy — it was a nickname for grey hair before it was a surname. The doubled letter at the front is a single Welsh letter representing a sound English does not have; the two written ls are not two sounds, and no English speaker attempts what the Welsh spelling is actually asking for.

Fashion outlook
Lloyd sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
