Lisset
Feminine · “my God is an oath”
Spanish does not end words in a silent e. French does constantly, so every French name that crosses into Spanish loses its ending: Lisette becomes Lisset, Yvette becomes Ivet, Nayelet and Yaret follow the same rule. The dropped letter is not carelessness — it is Spanish spelling working correctly.

Where it comes from
From Elisabeth to Lisset
The story of Lisset
French stacks diminutives and the result travels a long way from the source. Elisabeth is four syllables; Elise is two; Lisette adds the -ette ending back on to the shortened form, so the name is the tail of the original with a French ending on it. That is three moves, and a speaker meeting Lisette has no way of recovering Elisabeth from it. Spanish then took the name and applied its own spelling rules, which do not permit a final silent e — Spanish words end in a vowel that is said or in a consonant — so the e came off. The result looks truncated to a French reader and is entirely regular to a Spanish one.
Meaning
my God is an oath, at two removes
Lisette is the French double diminutive of Elisabeth: Elisabeth gives Elise, Elise gives Lisette. The Hebrew Elisheva is at the far end. Each suffix adds affection and no meaning, so by the third step the connection to the original is invisible to anyone who has not been told.

The Darrell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Lisset's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Darrell climbed just as high around 1948, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Darrell's path sketches the road Lisset is walking now.

The trade-off
- A documented Hebrew meaning at the end of a fully traceable chain.
- Two syllables and an unmistakable stress.
- Three short forms, one of which is a full name elsewhere.
- Lissette, Lisette and Lizeth are all in use and none of these is standard in America.
- English speakers move the stress to the front, which changes the name.
- The connection to Elizabeth is invisible unless someone explains it.
