The story of Leigha
Leah is Jacob's first wife, married to him by a substitution he does not discover until morning, and the text is unusually frank about her being the less loved of two sisters. English Protestants took the name after the Reformation. Quite separately, Leigh became a women's name in the twentieth century from the surname. Leigha blends the two spellings.
Meaningscholars disagree
weary; or a clearing
Hebrew Leah is generally read as weary, though a reading connected to a word for a wild cow has also been argued. English Leigh is from Old English leah, a woodland clearing. The spelling Leigha borrows the English look and the Hebrew sound.

The Orene test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Leigha's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Orene climbed just as high around 1914, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Orene's path sketches the road Leigha is walking now.
