The story of Kynlie
America has a long habit of taking Scottish and Irish surnames, dropping the Mac or the O, and giving what is left to children: MacKenzie becomes Kenzie, MacAllister becomes Allister, MacKinley becomes Kinley. The prefix is the part that means son of, so removing it removes the only grammar in the name and leaves a bare descriptive word. McKinley had a second life in America as a president's surname and then as the official name of the highest mountain on the continent, which it carried for about a century before the older Koyukon name Denali was restored. Kynlie is Kinley written by ear, with a y where the i was and an -ie where the -ey would have gone.

fair warrior
Through the surname MacKinley from Scottish Gaelic MacFhionnlaigh, son of Fionnlagh: fionn, fair or bright, with a second element read either as laoch, a warrior, or as a word for a host. Both readings are standard. Kynlie is several removes from any of it and was chosen for sound rather than descent.

The Siarra test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kynlie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Siarra climbed just as high around 1996, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Siarra's path sketches the road Kynlie is walking now.
Kynlie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Two syllables that everyone says correctly on first sight.
- The Gaelic root behind it is documented and still a living word.
- It has an obvious short form in Lee, which stands alone.
- Kinley, Kinlee, Kynlee and Kenley are all in use, and none of them is standard.
- The wave it belongs to is very recent, and it will date a child to that wave.
- The y does nothing to the sound, so the whole cost of the spelling is paid for looks.
