Kyasia

Asia and Europe were named from where the sun is. The likeliest reading takes both from Akkadian: asu, to go out or rise, against erebu, to go in or set. One continent is sunrise and the other is sunset, seen from somewhere between them.

The story of Kyasia
The Greeks did not invent the names of the continents; they inherited them from Mesopotamian sailors describing which way they were going. Asia was first used by Herodotus for the lands of the Persian empire and then spread outward until it covered a third of the earth, which is a great deal of work for a word that probably began as a direction. Once it became a woman's name in twentieth-century America, it also became an ending, and Kyasia belongs to that second life rather than to the first. The Ky- opening is one of the productive syllables of recent American naming, and it sits in front of a word that once meant nothing more than over there where it comes up.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Kyasia is a modern American compound and has no meaning of its own. The ending is the place name Asia, whose own derivation from an Akkadian word for sunrise is the standard reading but is not settled. The Ky- at the front is an opening syllable chosen for sound, not a word.
Pronouncing Kyasia
ky-AY-zhuh
Three syllables, stress in the middle, with the ending said exactly like the continent. kee-AH-see-uh, with four, is used in some families and follows the letters rather than the source.

The Chivon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kyasia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Chivon climbed just as high around 1980, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Chivon's path sketches the road Kyasia is walking now.
Kyasia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Three short forms, all of which stand alone as names.
- The ending is a word everyone already knows how to say.
- Every sound in it is ordinary English.
- There is no meaning behind the compound, only behind its ending.
- Kiasia, Kyasia and Kyasha all exist, so the spelling will need giving.
- It belongs to a narrow band of years and dates the bearer to them.
