Kera
Feminine · “lady”
The Latin Mass is in Latin except for one phrase. Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy, stayed in Greek for two thousand years because it was already fixed liturgy before Rome switched languages. Kera belongs to that word: kyrios is a lord, kyria a lady.

The story of Kera
The Irish half is worth pulling apart, because Irish built a whole system of names out of coloring. Ciar is dark, fionn is fair, ruadh is red, donn is brown, dubh is black, and every one of them produced names and then surnames: Ciaran and Ciara, Finn and Fingal, Roy from ruadh, Duff from dubh, Dunn from donn. A stranger's hair was the most portable description available, and Ireland used it for a thousand years. The Greek half came the other way, through the church: kyrios was the word the Greek scriptures used for God, and Kyra survived as a name in Greece and Russia long after the word itself had become purely liturgical.

lady — or, in the other reading, dark
Two roots reach this spelling and neither is derived from the other. Greek kyria, lady or mistress, gives Kyra and the Russian Kira. Irish ciar, dark or black, gives Ciara and its English respellings Kiera and Keira. Kera can be either, and American records do not distinguish them.

The Johna test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kera's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Johna climbed just as high around 1963, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Johna's path sketches the road Kera is walking now.
Kera sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Four letters and two syllables with nothing hard in either.
- Both of its possible roots are documented and still living words.
- It is short without being a shortening of anything in particular.
- Two pronunciations are in real use and the spelling chooses neither.
- Kira, Kyra, Ciara and Keira are all commoner, so the spelling will be given often.
- The meaning depends on which language you are claiming, and the name does not say which.
