The story of Kendrix
Cynwrig was a Welsh personal name that became the surname Kendrick, and a parallel English Cenric fed the same form. Its American given-name use is recent: Kendrick rose from the 2000s, and Kendrix appears in the registers in the 2010s, part of a group with Jax, Maddox and Brix that took the x ending. It is in current use.

chief hero, high summit
From the Welsh Cynwrig, generally read as cyn, 'chief' or 'first', and gwr, 'man' or 'hero'. A second route runs through the Old English Cenric, 'bold power'. Both feed the surname Kendrick, and the x spelling is a modern American respelling of the possessive s.

The Haydn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kendrix's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Haydn climbed just as high around 2003, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Haydn's path sketches the road Kendrix is walking now.
Kendrix sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The chief-hero meaning is transparent and belongs to a documented Welsh compound.
- Ken is available as a short form with a substantial record.
- Two firm syllables that carry well against any surname.
- Kendrick is much the commoner form and will be assumed.
- The first element is genuinely disputed between Welsh and English routes.
- The x will need dictating every time.
