Our story of Kemon
Rhyme families are usually described as if all their members were equal, and they are not. Almost every one of them has a single genuine ancestor with a real history, and everything else in the family is built on its ending after the fact. In this group the ancestor is Damon, a Greek name carried into English through a story that Cicero and Schiller both retold, about a man who offered himself as hostage so that his condemned friend could settle his affairs, and who was still waiting when the friend returned. Nothing of that reaches Kemon, which arrived through the Ke- prefix wave of the late twentieth century and peaked in 1997. What it does inherit is the shape: two syllables, a nasal ending, and a rhythm that has felt like a man's name in English for two hundred years.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No inherited etymology. The name is built from the Ke- prefix of American naming and the -mon ending shared with Damon, Lamon and Jamon. Damon itself is Greek, from a verb meaning to tame or subdue, and is the only member of the group with a source; the others take the sound without it. Glosses offered for Kemon are retrofits.
Pronouncing Kemon
KEE-mon
Two syllables with the stress at the front. Some families say kuh-MON with the weight at the end, which sounds like the English phrase come on and is the less common of the two.

The Bright test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Kemon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Bright climbed just as high around 1924, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Bright's path sketches the road Kemon is walking now.
Kemon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
