The story of Keegan
Aodh was among the commonest men's names in early Ireland, and Irish made diminutives of it freely — Aodhán, Aodhagán — each softening the name a little further. Families descended from an Aodhagán became Mac Aodhagáin, which English wrote as Keegan and Egan. The surname reached America with Irish emigration and became a given name in the late twentieth century, used for both sexes from the start.
Meaning

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Keegan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Rosalita climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Rosalita's path sketches the road Keegan is walking now.
