Once the guess was made, the name behaved like an English compound rather than an Irish one. Its two apparent halves could be respelt independently, and they were: Kate became Kat, Cat and Kait; the ending became lyn, lynn, linn and lynne. Katlynn is one of the many results, and the doubled n is the tell, because it marks the second half as the standing name Lynn rather than as an unstressed syllable. No Irish record uses any of these spellings.
