The story of Justine
The name's largest bearer never carried it: the emperor Justinian, whose commission gathered a thousand years of Roman law into a single code in the sixth century, and whose compilation is the direct ancestor of the civil law of most of Europe and Latin America. He took the name from his uncle Justin, who had it before him. Everything downstream — Justin, Justine, Justina, Giustina — comes from that family, and the fact that a fair-sized part of the world's legal system is named after it is one of the odder facts about a very plain Latin adjective.

The Dorothea test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Justine's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Dorothea climbed just as high around 1912, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Dorothea's path sketches the road Justine is walking now.
Justine sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
