The story of Jhonatan
Jonathan is Saul's son and David's friend, and the account of their bond is one of the most quoted passages in the Hebrew Bible; he dies in battle and David's lament for him is a poem the text preserves in full. Latin American naming took the name from English in the twentieth century and spelled it as Spanish would hear it, adding an h after the J to hold the English sound.
Meaning
the Lord has given
From Hebrew Yehonatan, joining a form of the divine name to a verb meaning to give; Nathan is the same verb standing alone, and Nathaniel is the same idea with the other word for God.

The Meliton test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jhonatan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Meliton climbed just as high around 1932, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Meliton's path sketches the road Jhonatan is walking now.
Jhonatan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
