The story of Jerimiah
Jeremiah spent forty years telling Jerusalem it was going to fall, was thrown into a cistern for it, and was proved right. The book that carries his name is the longest in the Bible by word count, and its tone gave English the word jeremiad. English Protestants took the name up after the Reformation and it has been in American use since the colonial period; Jerimiah is a modern respelling.
