Where it comes from

Our story of Jaydon

Our story of Jaydon is a story of a name that arrived from nowhere and multiplied. Jayden appeared in the American registers in the 1990s and rose faster than almost anything before it, pulling Aiden, Caden, Brayden and Hayden into one rhyme family. Respellings followed at once: Jaden, Jaiden, Jaydon, Jaydin. A Hebrew Jadon exists and is sometimes offered as a source, but the family's real history is thirty years long and entirely American.

Meaningnot established

Not established

No documented etymology. Jayden has been attributed to the Hebrew Jadon, 'he will judge', and to a blend of Jay and Aiden, but neither is established, and its rise is documented as a 1990s American phenomenon. Jaydon is a respelling of it.

counting every spelling

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Jaydon went to 64 boys in 2025, but Jaidon is the same name said out loud. Together the 2 spellings went to 76, which makes it the 852nd most-given boys’ name of the year — 1,355 places above the chart.

About 1 boy in 22,475 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 26,689 for Jaydon itself.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
