Jaxx
Masculine
Jaxx is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 3,285 boys against 32 girls since 1880.
One syllable, ending on the click of an X — a sound American given names hardly ever finish on. Behind it sits one of the oldest name-lines in English: Jack, the medieval pet form of John, which grew a surname, Jackson, which in turn grew a clipped modern form. Jaxx is the newest link in that chain, and the shortest thing you can call a child while still being heard across a playground.

The story of Jaxx
Jack has served as the everyday form of John in English since the Middle Ages, common enough that it became a word for an ordinary man and a fixture in dozens of trades and phrases. From it came the surname Jackson, 'son of Jack', which crossed into use as a first name in America. Late in the twentieth century that surname-name picked up a clipped form, Jax, and Jaxx followed as the doubled-letter variant — a spelling habit visible across a whole wave of recent American boys' names. The biker drama Sons of Anarchy, which ran from 2008, gave its lead the name Jax, keeping the short form in wide earshot during the years the spelling spread.
Meaning
Through Jax and Jackson: 'son of Jack' — Jack being the old English pet form of John, from Hebrew Yochanan, 'God is gracious'
The doubled X is a modern American spelling choice and carries no meaning of its own; the sense comes from the Jack–Jackson line behind it. Some parents use the name purely as a sound, with no reference to Jackson at all.

The Kennth test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jaxx's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kennth climbed just as high around 1960, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kennth's path sketches the road Jaxx is walking now.
Jaxx sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- One syllable, phonetically unambiguous: anyone who reads it aloud gets it right the first time.
- Sits inside a large, familiar family — Jack, Jackson, Jaxon, Jax — so the sound is instantly recognizable even where the spelling is not.
- Short enough to need no nickname, which spares a child the usual negotiation over what to be called.
- Carries a documented line back to John, one of the longest continuous name traditions in English.
- The spelling will be corrected for life. Jax is the more common form, Jacks the intuitive one, and Jaxx will be reached for last — expect to spell it out at every appointment and on every roster.
- The doubled X belongs to a recent and identifiable moment in American naming. That places the name in a narrow window in a way that Jack or Jackson never will.
- There is no longer, formal version to fall back on. A Jaxx who wants something more traditional on a diploma would be reaching for Jackson, which is not what the birth certificate says.
- It is unusual enough that a child is unlikely to meet another — pleasant for most, occasionally tiring for a kid who would rather not explain the extra X.
