Jashaun
Masculine
Jashaun is an American name with an Irish name inside it. Shaun is how English writes the Irish Seán, and Seán is how Irish writes John — so the second half has crossed two languages before it got here. The first half is the free syllable that American naming has been attaching to things for decades. The join is the new part.

The story of Jashaun
Seán entered Irish from the Norman French Jehan, which is why Ireland's most traditional man's name is technically a French import. English speakers, unable to read the fada, wrote what they heard: Shaun, Shawn, Sean. Once that spelling was loose in American English it became available as a building block, and the Ja- opening — already attached to dozens of names by the later twentieth century — found it. Names made this way are new, but the parts are not: this one has a Norman, an Irish and an American layer stacked in eight letters.

Not established
The compound has no meaning of its own; it was built for sound. The visible half does carry one: Shaun goes back through the Irish Seán to John, and behind that to the Hebrew Yohanan, God is gracious. The Ja- in front contributes rhythm rather than sense, and claiming more than that would be inventing.

The Arash test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jashaun's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Arash climbed just as high around 1982, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Arash's path sketches the road Jashaun is walking now.
Jashaun sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The whole second half is a name everyone already knows how to say.
- It shortens to Shaun without any awkwardness, so a child has a plain option in reserve.
- The stress is unambiguous, which is unusual among names built this way.
- Jashawn, Jashon and Jasean all compete for the same sound, so the spelling has to be given every time.
- It reads as a compound to anyone who looks at it, and some people will ask what the first half means; there is no answer.
- The Irish layer is invisible unless someone explains it, which is a small pity built into the name.
