The story of Jarad
Jared is the sixth of the ten generations from Adam to Noah, and the father of Enoch, the man who walked with God and was taken. That places him at the center of a large body of later literature: the Enochic books are among the most influential non-canonical Jewish writings, and they take his name as a marker of the moment the angels came down. English use of the name is Puritan in origin and modest until the twentieth century, when it rose sharply in the 1960s and 1970s. Jarad is the a-spelling of it, and its best year in United States records is 1983.
