Spanish compound given names very often pair a saint's name with a second, and Juan Carlos was among the most-given in Spain and Latin America in the second half of the twentieth century, helped considerably by the king who bore it. In the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico the spelling Jan for Juan became common in the 1990s, part of a broader taste for spellings that looked international, and the same period produced Jandel, Janpierre and Jancarlo. Jancarlos closes the compound to a single word and adds the Spanish final s of Carlos. Its best year in United States records is 2010.
