Our story of Jamauri
It is worth following where Amauri goes, because it is one of the few naming elements that ended up on a map. The Germanic Amalric produced Italian Amerigo; Amerigo Vespucci wrote widely circulated accounts of the South American coast; and in 1507 a German cartographer named Martin Waldseemuller printed a world map labeling the new landmass America, a Latinized feminine of Vespucci's given name. Waldseemuller later regretted it and removed the label from a subsequent edition, but by then a thousand copies were in circulation and the name had stuck. So two continents carry a feminised Latin form of an Italian version of a Gothic compound meaning work-ruler. Whether or not this particular American name descends from it, that chain is real and it is one of the more remarkable things a naming element has ever done.

'work-ruler', in the Amauri element
Germanic amal, 'work, exertion' — also the dynastic name of the Ostrogothic Amali — and ric, 'ruler, power', give Amalric, which becomes French Amaury and Italian Amerigo. That is a settled etymology. Whether Jamauri descends from Amauri or was built from the Ja- prefix and the -mauri ending independently cannot be determined; both were live in the same decades.

The Rhyan test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jamauri's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Rhyan climbed just as high around 1985, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Rhyan's path sketches the road Jamauri is walking now.
Jamauri sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Mauri and Jay are both usable short forms with different characters.
- The back half has a genuinely ancient and well-documented history.
- The spelling is phonetic and gives English readers little difficulty.
- Two pronunciations circulate for the middle syllable.
- Jamauri, Jamari and Jamarie all exist, so records will drift.
- The prefix has no meaning, so the answer is only half an answer.
