The story of Jahnae
The King James translators rendered the divine name as Jehovah in a handful of places and as LORD in most, but at Psalm 68:4 they wrote Jah, transliterating the short form directly. That single verse is the route by which the syllable entered English as a standalone word. Rastafari, emerging in Jamaica in the 1930s, adopted Jah as the name of God, and through reggae it reached audiences worldwide from the 1970s. Meanwhile the same element had been ending Hebrew names for three thousand years: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Elijah, Zechariah, Hallelujah. American naming has treated Jah as a prefix since the 1980s, producing Jahmir, Jahmal, Jahnae and dozens of others, and in that use it functions as a sound rather than as a name of God, which is a real difference worth stating.

Hebrew Yah, a short form of the divine name
Jah is the anglicized form of Yah, a shortened form of the Hebrew divine name that appears in the phrase hallelujah, praise Yah, and ends dozens of Hebrew names. Jahnae joins it to the -nae ending, and the compound is an American formation rather than a Hebrew one. Whether a family intends the divine element is not recoverable. It peaks in 1997.

The Aparna test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jahnae's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Aparna climbed just as high around 1975, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Aparna's path sketches the road Jahnae is walking now.
Jahnae sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
