Spanish colonists in Mexico found a green stone the Aztecs valued and believed it cured pains in the flank, so they named it for the ailment; French took le jade from the phrase and English took it from French. Jadelynn adds the -lynn that Carolyn and Evelyn left in circulation. A Spanish medical mistake at the front and an American suffix at the back.
