Idania
Feminine
Cuba after 1959 produced one of the most inventive naming waves anywhere in the Spanish-speaking world, and Idania belongs to it. Names built from new sounds, from initials, from borrowed syllables and from words read backwards became ordinary there in a way they had not been before.

Our story of Idania
Cuban naming from the 1960s onward is one of the clearest national cases of a naming system opening up. The traditional Spanish stock — José, María, Juan, Carmen — thinned, and in its place came a large body of new names built by the same methods American families were using at the same time and independently: prefixes attached to endings, borrowed syllables, initials expanded, sounds chosen for their look. The results include names built from Russian contact, from English words respelled, and from pure invention. Idania sits in that group, alongside Yudania, Odalys, Yanet and Dianelys. The American figures peak in 1977, which tracks Cuban emigration rather than any Cuban trend directly, and the names arrived already formed. What makes the wave worth knowing is that it happened twice, in two countries, at the same time, without either copying the other.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No settled meaning. Idania is most likely built on Ida, a Germanic element meaning work or labor, with the -ania ending common in Cuban and Caribbean coinages. A link to Mount Ida in Crete or the Troad is sometimes offered but not supported for this name. Nothing about the compound is documented in any older tradition, and readings offered online are inventions.

The Madalyne test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Idania's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Madalyne climbed just as high around 1922, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Madalyne's path sketches the road Idania is walking now.
Idania sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
