In theology it names unearned divine favor and generated a library of argument; in music a grace note is an ornament outside the strict value of the beat; in manners the graces are the accomplishments a person is expected to have; in commerce days of grace are the extra days allowed before a payment is due; saying grace is the prayer of thanks at a meal; and Your Grace addresses a duke or an archbishop. The name itself came in with the Puritan virtue names alongside Faith, Hope, Prudence and Mercy, and unlike most of that set it has never gone out of use for long.
