Graceann
Feminine · “favor”
One Latin word carries an unlikely amount of English. Gratia gave grace the theological term, grace the physical elegance, grace before a meal, a grace note, days of grace on a bill, and gracious. It also gave gratitude, gratuity, gratis, ingratiate and — by a route nobody expects — agree.

The story of Graceann
Gratus meant pleasing or welcome, and everything follows from that. Something done gratis is done as a favor. A gratuity is a thank-you. To ingratiate is to work yourself into someone's favor. Agree comes through French agreer, to receive with favor, from ad gratum. Grace itself arrived in English as a religious term — unearned favor — and spread outward into physical ease and social manners, which is why a dancer and a doctrine share a word. The name comes from the English virtue tradition, which put Grace alongside Faith, Hope and Prudence, and the compound with Ann is a twentieth-century American habit of saying two names as one.
Meaning
favor, joined to grace
Grace is Latin gratia, favor or thanks. Ann is Hebrew Hannah, grace or favor. The two halves mean nearly the same thing in two languages, which is unusual for a compound and probably unintentional: American double names were assembled for sound rather than for sense.

The Reeva test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Graceann's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Reeva climbed just as high around 1915, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Reeva's path sketches the road Graceann is walking now.
Graceann sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Both halves have documented meanings, which most compounds cannot say.
- Three short forms, all of which are full names in their own right.
- Two syllables and nothing in the spelling to explain.
- Most people will use Grace and stop there.
- Grace Ann, Graceanne and Gracieann are all written, so the spacing and spelling will be queried.
- Both halves mean roughly the same thing, which some families find pleasing and others redundant.
