The story of Giulianna
The gens Julia was one of the oldest patrician houses in Rome and became the most famous by accident of one member; its adjective, Julianus, was borne by others in the family and by a run of early Christian saints and martyrs, which carried it into medieval Europe. Italian made it Giuliano and Giuliana. Doubling the n is an American and Latin American adjustment, not an Italian one, and it belongs to the last two decades, when the whole Juliana family came back into use.

Not established
Julianus means belonging to the Julian family, and that much is certain. What the family name Julius itself means is not: descent from Iulus, a legendary Trojan, is the Romans' own account; a connection to a word for downy-bearded or youthful is another; a Greek root meaning Jove-born is a third. None can be shown.
