The story of Getsemani
The gospels place the agony in the garden at Gethsemane, and Latin American Catholic and evangelical naming has drawn on biblical place names as freely as on biblical people: Getsemaní, Belén for Bethlehem, Nazaret, Sion, Jordán. Belén is by far the most established of these and is an ordinary Spanish name. Getsemaní is rarer and more recent, appearing in American records from the 1990s with Mexican and Central American families and peaking in 2004. The name is also carried by a neighborhood in Cartagena, Colombia, which has made it familiar there.
Meaning
Oil press
From Hebrew or Aramaic gat šĕmānîm, a press for oils, through Greek Gethsēmanē. The reading is settled and describes the place literally: an olive grove on the Mount of Olives with a press in it. The Spanish Getsemaní is the standard form of the place name in Spanish Bibles.

The Tynia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Getsemani's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tynia climbed just as high around 1963, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tynia's path sketches the road Getsemani is walking now.
Getsemani sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
