Genevia
Feminine
Genevia drops the second v and produces something that looks Latin. The name it comes from is Gaulish, or at least pre-Roman, and its origin has never been recovered; removing a consonant makes it resemble a Latin formation it has nothing to do with, which is a small illustration of how much a spelling can imply that a history does not support.

The story of Genevia
Gaulish is one of the great gaps in European linguistics. It was spoken across most of France and beyond for centuries, it left inscriptions, place names and a scatter of words borrowed into Latin, and then it died out under Roman rule without anybody writing a grammar of it. What survives is enough to know it was Celtic and related to Welsh and Irish, and not enough to translate most of what it left behind. A great many French place names and a handful of personal names come from it, and their meanings are inferred rather than known. This name is one of those: certainly old, probably Gaulish, and not translatable with any confidence at all.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The parent name's origin is genuinely unsettled. It is probably Gaulish, the elements have been read several ways, and none of the readings has carried. So there is nothing to inherit. The respelling makes the name look like a Latin abstract noun, which it is not, and that appearance is the only thing the missing letter contributes.
How the name formed
- A probably Gaulish name of unrecovered meaning
- Genevieve in French and then in English
- Genoveva in Spanish, keeping both consonants
- Genevia, dropping one and looking Latin

Four syllables with the stress on the second. The missing consonant removes a syllable boundary that the fuller spelling has, which makes this version slightly smoother and slightly less clear about where one syllable ends.

Fashion outlook
Genevia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Neva and Via are two very different short forms and both stand alone.
- The rhythm is long and even and the name carries well when said in full.
- It is genuinely rare while being recognizably part of a familiar family.
- Genevieve is the standard form and this one will be read as a variant of it.
- There is no meaning to give, because the parent name has never had one established.
- Four syllables will be shortened by everybody outside the family.
