The story of Freja
Freyja is a goddess of love, war and the dead — half the slain go to her hall and half to Odin's, which is not the arrangement most retellings mention — and she drives a chariot pulled by cats and owns a necklace the myths are very interested in. Her name is the ordinary word for a lady. Danish and Swedish give Freja, which has been heavily used in Scandinavia in recent decades.
Meaning
lady, mistress
From Old Norse freyja, a lady or mistress, the feminine of freyr, a lord; both were used as divine titles that became the gods' names. The German Frau is the same word.

The Janira test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Freja's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Janira climbed just as high around 1988, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Janira's path sketches the road Freja is walking now.
Freja sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- English readers say the j as in jam unless told otherwise.
- Freya is the standard English spelling and will be written for her.
- Friday is named for the same goddess, which people will mention.
