The story of Fateh
The root f-t-h runs through Arabic in words for opening, beginning and conquest — the first chapter of the Qur'an is al-Fatiha, the Opening. The Ottoman sultan who took Constantinople is remembered as Fatih, the Conqueror, and the name spread with the empire. Separately, Punjabi took the word into Sikh usage, where fateh means victory and belongs to a formula spoken daily. The name reaches United States records from both directions — with Arab and Turkish families, and with Punjabi Sikh families for whom it is a different word with the same root.
Meaning
opener; conqueror, victory
Arabic fatih is the active participle of fataha, 'to open', and it carries conquest because Arabic describes taking a city as opening it. Al-Fattah, the Opener, is one of the ninety-nine names of God. In Punjabi, fateh means victory and appears in the Sikh greeting that ends 'Waheguru ji ki Fateh' — victory belongs to God. The reading is documented on both roads and they are the same word.

The Devone test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Fateh's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Devone climbed just as high around 1987, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Devone's path sketches the road Fateh is walking now.
Fateh sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
