The story of Ebrahim
Abraham is a founding figure for Judaism, Christianity and Islam alike, and the Qur'an gives Ibrahim a substantial presence — the building of the Kaaba, the near-sacrifice, the argument with his father about idols. Persian gives Ebrahim, with the initial vowel that Persian prefers. It is very heavily used in Iran and reaches American records from there and from Egypt.

father of many
Genesis explains Abraham as father of a multitude of nations, but the philology is awkward — the -raham element does not straightforwardly give that sense in Hebrew, and an Aramaic or older Semitic source has been proposed. The text's explanation is a wordplay rather than an etymology.

The Dejohn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ebrahim's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Dejohn climbed just as high around 1997, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Dejohn's path sketches the road Ebrahim is walking now.
