The story of Dionna
Dione is one of the oldest names in Greek and one of the least used, because the goddess she belonged to was written out. In the Iliad she is Aphrodite's mother, consoling her daughter after a wound; in Hesiod she is only a name in a list, and Aphrodite is born from sea foam instead. Her cult survived at Dodona, where she was worshipped beside Zeus at the oldest oracle in Greece. The name reached modern use through French Dionne, then through American respelling, which added a second n and an a to make it read as a woman's name at a glance. The moon of Saturn is still called Dione, which is where most people meet the older spelling.
Meaning
the feminine of the sky god's name
Greek Dione is built on the same root as Zeus, whose oblique forms are Dios and Dii, from an ancient word for the bright sky. Dione is that word made feminine — goddess to his god, with no further meaning attached. Dionysus contains the same first element.

Dionna's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Micki climbed just as high around 1957, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Micki's path sketches the road Dionna is walking now.
Dionna sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
