Dashon
Masculine · “Hebrew Yohanan”
Dashon is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 1,615 boys against 33 girls since 1880.
The apostrophe in Da'Shon is a real orthographic invention and a real administrative problem. Databases that reject punctuation in a name field have been mangling it, and O'Brien, for as long as they have existed.

The story of Dashon
American naming developed two pieces of punctuation of its own: the internal capital, as in DaShon and LaToya, and the apostrophe, as in Da'Shon and D'Andre. Both mark the seam between prefix and stem, and both are genuine spelling devices rather than errors, since they are used consistently and pronounced identically to the unpunctuated forms. Computer systems have never handled them well. Apostrophes break naive database queries, internal capitals are flattened by systems that force-capitalize, and both are stripped by forms that accept letters only, so the name on the airline ticket does not match the name on the passport. Irish surnames have the same problem for the same reason, and it is one of the few places where a naming tradition collides directly with software.

Dashon joins the Da- prefix to Shon, a respelling of Sean, the Irish form of John. The prefix carries no meaning; the second element is a very old name at three removes. The peak is 1993.

The Silverio test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dashon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Silverio climbed just as high around 1940, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Silverio's path sketches the road Dashon is walking now.
Dashon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
