Damari
Feminine · “possibly 'heifer' or 'gentle”
Damari is given to both — 811 girls and 5,547 boys since 1880. See Damari as a boy nameSee other names given to both
Damari has a genuine New Testament candidate behind it. Damaris is named in Acts as one of the few people in Athens who believed Paul, and her name is Greek; Damari is a clipping of it. It is also readable as a Da- prefix name of the modern American kind, and both routes were live when this record peaked in 2006.

The story of Damari
Acts 17 describes Paul preaching at the Areopagus in Athens to an audience that mostly mocked him; two named converts are Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman called Damaris. She appears nowhere else and nothing more is known about her, but the naming of a woman in that context is itself notable. English-speaking Protestants took Damaris up after the Reformation and it was in genuine use in seventeenth-century England and colonial New England. The modern American Damari is a separate arrival, belonging to the Da- and -ari families that produced Amari, Jamari and Damarion in the same years.
Meaningscholars disagree
possibly 'heifer' or 'gentle', in the Damaris reading
Greek Damaris appears once in the New Testament and its derivation is argued. The most cited proposal connects it to damalis, 'heifer, young cow', which was an ordinary Greek women's name; another reads it from damar, 'wife', and a third from a root meaning to tame or to be gentle. None is decisive. If Damari is instead a modern Da- prefix formation, it has no meaning at all — and the record cannot tell the two apart.

The Karman test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Damari's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Karman climbed just as high around 1968, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Karman's path sketches the road Damari is walking now.
Damari sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
