The story of Cyra
Cyrus the Great let the exiled Judeans return and rebuild the temple, and Isaiah calls him the Lord's anointed — the only foreigner in scripture so named. His own name's meaning has not been recovered. A separate Greek kyra means a lady. Cyra appears in American records in current use.

Not established
From Cyrus, from the Old Persian Kurush, whose meaning is genuinely unrecovered — 'sun', 'young' and 'humiliator of the enemy' have all been proposed. A separate Greek Kyra, 'lady', from kyrios, also exists. Neither is established for this spelling.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Sadia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Cyra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Sadia climbed just as high around 1998, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Sadia's path sketches the road Cyra is walking now.
Cyra sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
